"I have the swine flu"- Aivi

We flew all the way to London just to visit Aivi but we've only seen her 3 times due to the swine flu!! She was quarantined for 3-4 days and her apartment building hired a warden to make sure no one left. So what did we do while Aivi was locked up in her room? LOADS! Gosh, I feel kind of guilty because I've been having so much fun!

I promise to make a legit blog once I get back to the states but for now, ya'll just gonna have to deal with these brief posts.

Together, all three of us have covered more than 90% of the attractions in London. London's summer heatwave was great because we had beautiful sunny weather almost everyday, which catalyzed more-than-normal touring action. I can honestly say that we ruled the tube train station here. Go team America! From the queen's buckingham palace to Shakespear's very own globe theater, a lot was accomplished in only 7 days.

Accomplished check list:
London Tower
Buckingham Palace
National gallery
Somerset house
Covent Square
fish and chips
pub crawl
St. Paul's Cathedral
The London Eye
Big Ben/Parliment
Westminster Abbey
Marble Arch
Wellington Arch
Harrods
Selfridges
High Tea
Visit the prime minister's crib
London Musical "Chicago"
London play "Arcadia" by Tom Stoppard
Shakespear's globe theater "Romeo and Juliet"
Wimbledon Queue
Hyde Park
Trafalgar square
Nottinghill

Things we did not do:
Meet Prince Harry and Prince William

Things we will do when we come back to London in a few years:

Meet Prince Harry and Prince William
Go to Wimbledon

My favorite quote: "Londontown is like NYC with a touch of class"

"Can you exchange five pounds for dollar pounds, please?"

When I asked our lunch server this, he gave me the most confused look. I immediately saw my error and gave the "OH! I mean, 5 pounds change. Sorry, I'm from America."

WELCOME TO ENGLAND!

So far, so good. Our last minute housing bookings went through. THANK GOD. Note to self: never, ever, ever, procrastinate London housing bookings during Wimbledon week. We will be here for about a week and then we'll be backpacking through Spain and Paris. And when I say back pack, what I really mean is rolly polly luggage.

Super tired

More to come...I just need to get over this horrendous 9 hour jet lag. Tomorrow we will be official American tourists (believe me, Chris and Christine really do have fanny packs, except these fanny packs go under your shirt). Which reminds me...Should I break out my underwear with pockets??

Torn between Two Apartments, Feeling like a Fool

Apartment shopping in Orange County is like shopping for a boyfriend. You have to consider many things: age, location, charm, attractiveness, stability/durability, and size (umm, like size of the apartment...Duh). You have to factor in all of these things before you invest your time, money, and emotions. To be honest, being in an actual relationship is probably easier than being in a committed lease to an apartment. You can always break up in a relationship but in a apartment lease, you're stuck to it via a legal contract. Some commitments can last up to 2 years!

As you can see, my experience with apartment shopping has been quite a headache. I don't think I was being that picky. Okay, okay, so maybe I did want it all. I wanted an apartment in a great location (preferably Brea, voted one of the best places to live in the U.S.), a relatively new and modern decor, nice kitchen counter tops, a spacious floor plan, central AC, a swimming pool in the complex, a good surrounding community, and lots of amenities thrown in. Did I also mention that I wanted all of this all for one cheap, affordable price? Am I being incredibly impossible?

I've been here for almost 3 weeks dating around, stressed, tired, keeping my eyes very opened while keeping my wallet very shut...

After scouring the web, calling apartment complexes, and racing through craigslist, I had set multiple first date appointments.

Like any other first date, I always ask these key questions that we should all consider before committing to any lease:

How old are you? Are you built in the 70's, 80's, or 90's? Does your style fit my style? What's your history? Are you too old for me?

Are you stable? Do I feel safe being around you? Are the light fixtures reliable? Is the water heater working properly? If an earthquake occurs, will you protect me?

Am I attracted to you? What color is the carpet? What color are the walls? How many times have they been repainted? Why does the carpet smell like cats and dogs? Why does the carpet smell like smoke?? I don't like smokers!

Where are you located? I don't want a long distance relationship. I want you to be no more than 20 or so minutes far from school. I would also prefer it if you were located close to fun areas because I don't want to feel like I'm living in the boonies.

Who are your close friends? I heard one of the units next to you had a huge party and the cops found drugs and had to arrest some people. I don't think I'm okay with that.

What else are you offering me? Is there a patio? How about a community pool? Fitness center? Will the rent include utilities? Will water, trash, sewage, gas, or electricity be included in this relationship?

Are you worth it? Is the amount of rent per month worth it?

And finally, the most important question:

Are we compatible? Will we be happy together? Even if you don't have it all, am I accepting of that? Am I willing to spend a little extra more per month to keep you?
